Transport Ships Are Unsafe Without Being Weatherproof

We hear the world going nuts about making the ships water tight, but what everyone forgets to add along is that the ships also need to be weather tight when they set sail. Without water a ship cannot exist but it also is the biggest threat for every ship that is floating on the sea. Some of the world’s biggest and powerful ships like the Titanic have been sunk by the smallest leak. Of course in the case of Titanic the leak was purely an accident, but if a ship is not made weather proof, it is no accident but complete negligence of the staff.

The seas and ocean’s air has the highest levels of humidity. At times the air becomes so humid that a person with weak lungs may collapse and be put on a ventilator. Today our ships are made of steel, plastic and wood. Except for the plastic, every other item is vulnerable to humidity. Steel can be easily corroded by the water present in the air that is why it is ensured that every inch of the steel present is covered by a thick layer of paint. The ultrasonic tightness testing procedure helps to learn about the paint actually able to cover every area of the ship’s body.

The transport ship is one of the most important and a great achievement of the modern ship industry. Its ability to carry tons of loads in a single go has enabled the businesses to become global. Now goods can be transported to any destination on the planet without worrying how to do it. The transport ship has compartments to hold the goods which are commonly known as the cargo hatches. The cargo hatches are covered by the hatch covers and it is very important to check tightness of hatch with ultrasound and make sure that it is weather proof.

Meeting a storm in the sea is not always necessary. Sometimes a transport ship can complete a voyage without encountering a single rain drop. But the humidity levels are never low, the presence of the water droplets always pose a threat to the goods present inside the cargo hatch. If the humidity is uncontrolled inside the cargo hatches, the goods can be easily destroyed. This is why we can see the ships being run for the hatch cover ultrasonic tightness testing before commencing every voyage without considering it to be a short or a long one.
