Modern Ships Praise Ultrasonic Testing

Adventures at sea have always fascinated the young and adult alike. We often read about the great conquests of our ancestral heroes and how they managed to make unthinkable achievements by sailing in their ships to far off places and feared lands. A ship has always been a fantasy for humans and it still is today. The ships we have now in the modern age are far better equipped with every facility desired. We have the internet facility on ships, we have the Bluetooth connectivity facility, we even have swimming pools on ships and the kitchens are nothing but pure art. In fact our entire ships are no less than art pieces floating on the surface of waters.

One may hardly find a ship today that does not have a hatch cover. And now with the ability to check tightness of hatch with ultrasound our ships are not just art work, they are the safest ships that ever existed. We can easily read in the great stories of voyages in the sea that maintaining the integrity of the cargo hatches had always been the greatest problem. Ships and other machines tend to become weaker with the wear and tear and with the constant use of the moving parts they often wear off or break up. This is the commonest problem with a hatch cover of today and the past alike. Sometimes the wear and tear simply starts loosening the areas that need to be extremely tight. These loose areas are the ones where the water finds a way to ingress and start destruction from within.

In the old ships made of wood, the kitchen and the store were the most affected areas by the leaking water. Since those ships had no motors and had to rely on the wind to carry them, they had to sail continuously for months in the oceans. They could never tolerate a leaking body because it would start creating havoc inside and then everything would be lost. The pirates were another threat they had to face on the voyage and there were many times a ship had to fight them to protect themselves and the ship.

Luckily with the strict laws and satellite monitoring of the oceans the pirates are now almost extinct. And with the hatch cover ultrasonic tightness testing at hand protecting the ship from leaks is now as easy as a child’s play.
